At the end with the medals

13 in 13 Marathon No.2 – Luton Marathon – Event Summary

After a week of doing very little both of us were looking forward to the Luton marathon and, as usual, I was optimistic of putting in a good time. Luton comprises three 14km laps, with a five hour cut off time. The course undulated through the Luton countryside mainly comprising road running with the occasional off road track.

The first two laps were completed in a good time, leaving just under two hours to compete the marathon and remain within the cut off time. Unfortunately however the wheels fell off in the third lap when niggling injuries (right hip in particular) crept up on the larger of the two Dans!

At the end with the medals

With the cut off point looming large a decision was made for the (slightly smaller) Dan to make a break for it to ensure at least one of us hit the required time. We’re glad to confirm that both Dans made the cut off with times of 4.54 and 4.57 respectively.

Luton was a well organised and generally enjoyable marathon with friendly marshalls dotted throughout the course. One even asked the other Dan about THE CATS FOUNDATION and what it was about so he had a chat with her during the last lap! We were lucky to have Christina offering support and providing the unenviable task of ‘t-shirt changer’ at the end of each lap, and must also thank Jose and Carlos for their support at the finish.

Next up is Deal in three weeks time followed by a nice break over Christmas. As always, you can sponsor us doing the 13 in 13 challenge at the bottom of the page!
