One night of baby sitting for The CATS Foundation

I recently set-up an event on Facebook on behalf of THE CATS FOUNDATION and was asked whether I would be happy to post this information on the charity website as well. You can find the event on Facebook here.

I of course said yes – so here are the details of the event and a little introduction as to why I set it up in the first place. The guys at THE CATS FOUNDATION are hoping that lots of people want to get involved!

Why we are doing this event

My dear friends Deborah and James have a beautiful little 2 year old girl called Isabella. Isabella loves rhyming words and music and kissing her mummy and she has Tay-Sachs, a disease of the nervous system. By the time a child with Tay-Sachs disease is three or four-years old, the nervous system is so badly affected that life itself cannot be supported. Even with the best of care, all children with classic Tay-Sachs disease die early in childhood, usually by the age of 5, although some do live longer.

An inspiring charity (THE CATS FOUNDATION) has been set up to raise money for clinical research to find a cure – clinical trials could start as early as 2012.

The event

I feel very privileged to have got to know Isabella over the last few months and really want to do something to support new research into Tay-Sachs, this is where I hope you can help. I am setting up this page on THE CATS FOUNDATION website and Facebook (which you can access here) to invite you to do just one night of baby sitting, for someone you know, sometime over the next three months, and then donate your earnings to the CATS foundation.

So all you have to do is:

      1. Find someone to babysit for
      2. Do the babysitting
      3. Donate your earnings either on the website or send a cheque
      4. Post on the Facebook wall and this website
      5. Spread the word and invite any friends you think might want to join in

If we all do it, that could be quite a lot of money, and if you invite friends to do it, that could be even more money. No pressure, but if you do manage to do it, post it on this page of THE CATS FOUNDATION website and the Facebook event wall and we can all see how well we are doing as a joint effort.

Many many thanks in advance from Melanie and Isabella and all the other children and families that will benefit from a cure one day.

You can read Isabella’s full story which is available on Today Was Not About Tay-Sachs here.

How to donate your baby sitting earnings

There are a variety of ways to donate the money you make from your baby sitting. You can either send a cheque, donate via bank transfer or use the PayPal button – there are links to each donation method below.
